Well, we were still in Scotland, that much I knew for certain. It turns out I'd been rather hasty with the assumption that I knew our precise location. We were in a forest, and I knew I'd camped near it before, and I'd dwindled it down to four locations: The Fairy Glen - near Rosemarkie, Galloway Forest - on the outskirts of Dumfries and Galloway, the forest track near North Berwick and that forest just up from the beach near the aforementioned Fairy Glen. I wasn't certain what good a location would do, since we were guarded by hundreds of men, who could easily throw any rescue parties off the trail, or just move us.
They had holed us up in this tiny little cave under a big pile of leaves - again, remarkably unhelpful in narrowing down our location. The cave was clearly man-made, but rushed, which you didn't have to be Sherlock Holmes to know meant they had built it to imprison us, but hadn't planned on imprison us. It was constructed out of dry mud, with some sort of coating - quite plasticky - holding it up against the weight of Earth's ten newtons per kilogram. It was quite large, in fact it had a door at the back and I assumed a network of tunnels behind it. Perhaps it was like World War I trenches. I hoped not. I enjoyed having feet. I'd rather not get Trench-Foot.
They gave us food three times a day; I guess it's a bit of an inconvenience if your hostage kicks it before you've even had time to deliver a ransom not. The food was well ... for me it was heaven. I have this strange obsession with pasta, which was what they shoved through a hatch in the makeshift front door of the cave, though I decided not to tell them, since I'd surely end up with tri-daily portions of brussel sprouts. Dinner time was the only time they interacted with us, which meant the rest of the day went only one place.
I'm not sure I understand why they let you keep your phone.
Guntas had appeared online ... I recommended we let her in, as a co-creator of #sherlocksunday.
G: Yh, did they not expect u to use it?
They don't know I hav it. When they wer searchin me jo took it, then slipped it back 2 me.
Impressive. We told the police where u were today. They got the ransom yesterday
30 million!
Jo here, that too is impressive.
How r u keepin the phone charged?
still me, theres a radiator, but the caves so enclosed that sometimes u dont need it cos con
vection currents. ben had bn chargin phone so the charger was in pocket. they spotted that
but didnt care cos thot he didnt hav phone
ben back, so thisll b easy? government in, out, we're free.
theres a slight problem with that
theres this clause in the ransom note, that says they hav weapons
serious weapons
planted somewhere
jo: where?
could b under yous, could b under the palace
ben: so... theyre not comin
nope. and theres a problem with the ransom too. it has to be a kid who delivers it, in cas
h
